The North Loop Clinic and Pharmacy, located on the first floor of the Tractor Works Building at 800 Washington Avenue, opens on April 17 in the North Loop neighborhood and central business district in downtown Minneapolis. The clinic is owned by Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc.

“We’re excited to make our health care and pharmacy services available to people who live and work in the vibrant North Loop area,” said clinic medical director Dr. Jane Hess. “We look forward to partnering with our new neighbors to achieve and maintain their health care goals.”

North Loop Clinic was designed to give patients convenient access to the care they need – when they need it – while connecting them to the comprehensive services and expertise available through Hennepin Healthcare System.

The 6,312 square foot neighborhood clinic provides a full range of care for everyone in the family, including family/pediatric medicine, dermatology, allergy, women’s health (certified nurse midwives, OB/GYN specialists), integrative health (acupuncture, chiropractic), laboratory services and a convenient, on-site pharmacy.

“In addition to general dermatologic care, we are also offering cosmetic dermatology at the clinic,” explains Dr. Hess. “Botox, micro needling, cosmetic fillers, chemical peels and other procedures are available, and our adjoining pharmacy will carry a variety of cosmetic products.”

North Loop Clinic and Pharmacy offers same day and next day appointments, as well as evening and Saturday hours. Walk-in appointments and new patients are welcome.

The public is invited to an Open House at North Loop Clinic and Pharmacy on Wednesday, April 26 from 4-7pm. Clinic providers and staff look forward to meeting visitors, and giving tours and health demonstrations. Refreshments will also be served.

North Loop Clinic is the eighth neighborhood clinic to join Hennepin Healthcare System. In 2018, a 325,000 square foot Specialty Center opens on 8th Street across from Hennepin County Medical Center, offering convenient access to many of the hospital’s downtown campus clinics and outpatient services. HCMC Clinic and pharmacy to open in North Loop area of downtown Minneapolis

North Loop Twitter graphicHennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) will open a new clinic and pharmacy to serve people living and working in the North Loop area and central business district in downtown Minneapolis.

“North Loop is the fastest growing residential neighborhood in Minneapolis and the people who live there have been asking for a local clinic and pharmacy to serve their health care needs,” said Jon L. Pryor, MD, MBA, CEO. “This new clinic will do that, and serve a broader need for several sought-after specialties for people who live and work in the area.”

The new clinic and full service pharmacy will open later this year on the first floor of the Tractor Works building at 800 Washington Avenue North.

“This is an active neighborhood and this clinic will provide convenient access to primary care, chiropractic care and acupuncture services that neighborhood residents told us they want,” said Scott Wordelman, FACHE, Sr. Vice President of Ambulatory Care & Support Services. “We will also offer allergy and dermatology specialty care by board-certified physicians, as well as additional specialties, such as women’s health and sports medicine.”

The clinic will blend high tech and high touch, with top medical care and conveniences like online scheduling, personal electronic medical records and wellness, nutrition, and fitness programming for the neighborhood.

“Our mission is to improve the health and wellness of the whole community and this clinic, along with the rest of our growing clinic system, supports that mission,” said Pryor.
HCMC recently announced the move and expansion of the Richfield Clinic, scheduled to open in a larger, more visible location in Richfield this fall. In downtown Minneapolis, HCMC operates an employer clinic and multiple primary care and specialty clinics on the main medical center campus. Construction also is underway on a new 377,000 square foot ambulatory clinic and surgery center that will open in early 2018.

“Between the new North Loop Clinic and our main campus we are able to meet every health care need of downtown residents, workers, and visitors,” said Wordelman. “People can stay in one system to get the full continuum of care, and it’s all located close to where they live or work.”

New clinic and specialty building update

On Tuesday, April 14 the Hennepin County Board approved proceeding with planning of a larger new clinic and specialty building for Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) than was originally proposed as part of the first phase of the new clinic and specialty building project.

Hennepin County Medical Center is consolidating its downtown clinics and specialties into one building for the convenience of patients. The new building, to be located between 8th and 9th streets and Chicago and Park avenues in east downtown, will offer a new, patient-centered model of care in an efficient and accessible facility, featuring expanded evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of patients.

The original plan was for a 322,000 square foot building, at a total project cost of $191.7 million to be built in the first phase, with the possibility of future expansion on the site.

“As we completed a careful analysis of our current needs and the volume growth that we’ve seen in the past two years, it has become clear that we would not be able to consolidate all of the clinics and services that are today spread across nine buildings downtown in the square footage originally proposed,” said Scott Wordelman, Vice President of Ambulatory Services.

Significant additional investment would have been needed to relocate and renovate up to six clinics that did not fit into the new facility.

The footprint of the six-story outpatient care center will now be expanded to accommodate a  367,000 square foot building at a cost of $224.6 million that will include all of HCMC’s downtown campus clinics, as well as relocation of its Comprehensive Cancer Center. This also includes replacement of the linear accelerator that’s used to treat cancer patients, which was due to be replaced.

The county will be asked to issue bonds to finance the project and the healthcare system will pay the debt service on the bonds from operating income.

“Understanding the changing needs and development in the east downtown area, this plan gives us the greatest flexibility for the rest of the campus as we take a fresh look at our facilities,” said Wordelman.

The revised plan is to break ground by November of this year and start seeing patients in the new building in December of 2017.

HCMC plans to expand its downtown campus

Hennepin County Medical Center will build a new 322,000 square foot clinic and specialty center that will expand its downtown Minneapolis campus to meet the growing need for outpatient care and specialty services.

The Hennepin County Board approved spending $10 million to acquire property near the main campus in downtown Minneapolis, directly across from the Emergency Department on 8th St., between Park and Chicago Aves. The total cost of the new building, including the land, and relocation of a helipad, will be approximately $191 million to be financed through the sale of bonds.

“First and foremost this new facility will improve the experience for our patients,” said Jon Pryor, MD, MBA, CEO of Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc. “Right now our primary care and specialty care clinics downtown are spread across nine buildings that we own or lease. Bringing them together into one building will make it more convenient for our patients and more efficient for our staff.”

The new building will include primary care clinics, specialty clinics and outpatient surgery facilities. It would open in 2016. Continue reading “HCMC plans to expand its downtown campus”

Whittier Clinic receives Silver LEED award

First healthcare facility in Minneapolis to achieve Silver LEED-NC certification
Whittier Clinic, one of Hennepin County Medical Center’s (HCMC) five neighborhood primary care clinics, has been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification at the Silver level by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The multi-specialty clinic opened in October 2010. McGough Construction was the general contractor and HGA was the architect for the 59,200-square-foot building located on Nicollet Ave. and 28th St. in South Minneapolis.

LEED certification is difficult for healthcare facilities to achieve because of their specific design needs, including stringent building code and infection control requirements. The Whittier Clinic is the first healthcare facility in Minneapolis to be awarded certification under LEED-NC (or LEED for New Construction) at any level.
