Capsule found during pharmacy construction

Construction workers preparing a new pharmacy outlet at HCMC were surprised to uncover a time capsule behind a cornerstone in HCMC’s Blue Building, formerly part of Metropolitan Medical Center (MMC).  The time capsule was placed in the cornerstone in 1966.

On Tuesday, August 30 at 1:30 p.m., the time capsule will be opened during a ceremony at HCMC.  Blue Building, lower level. Enter at 900 S. 8th St. and follow signs.

The   MMC Historical Library and the HCMC History Museum will also be open during this time.  Both of these collections are currently featured in the new “Medicine in Hennepin County by Decades” exhibit  on display at the Hennepin County Government Center through the end of September.  Information will be available at the time capsule opening reception or you can visit www.hennepin.us/hennepingallery.
