HCMC welcomes Dr. Byron Marquez

Dr. Byron Marquez has been named Senior Medical Director and Chief of Community Primary Care at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), and is now seeing patients at Whittier Clinic.  In addition to direct patient care, Dr. Marquez will work with clinicians in six community primary care clinics, two convenience clinics, and one worksite based clinic to improve continually the care they provide their patients.

After graduating from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California, Dr. Marquez completed a family medicine residency in Detroit, Michigan. He worked as a family physician for 12 years in Madison, Wisconsin before joining HCMC.

Dr. Marquez enjoys getting to know his patients over time, in the context of their family and community. He believes in strengthening families and individuals by helping them build a foundation of good health. He focuses on helping people meet their personal goals for health by preventing illness when possible, finding solutions for acute problems when needed, and managing chronic conditions carefully.

Having spent two years as a missionary in Chile in the 1980s, Dr. Marquez uses his Spanish skills as an additional way to connect with his patients. He realizes that, like anyone, Spanish-speaking patients appreciate the chance to talk with their doctor about health concerns in their own language.  (See his provider profile on hcmc.org.)
